At the end of the year 2020, the number of restaurants, cafes, bars in Russia reached 89,735 facilities. This represents a 1.9% increase year-over-year. In addition, there are 33,544 casual canteens and diners (down by 1.7%), as well as 63,057 dining facilities on the balance sheet of educational institutions, organizations, industrial enterprises (down by 0.2%).
The capacity of restaurants, cafes, bars was approximately 4.56 million seats, down by 0.04% compared to a year ago. The average capacity amounted to 51 persons per facility in the period under review.
In addition, there were 1.02 million seats in the fast-casual canteens and diners (down by 4.7%), as well as 5.28 million dining seats on the balance sheet of educational institutions, organizations, industrial enterprises (up by 0.5%).
The total floor area of restaurants, cafes, bars (service hall area for customers) amounted to approximately 11.1 million square meters in the reporting year, with the average footage of 124 sq. m per facility.
When taking into account restaurants, cafes, bars, just 12% of them are located in rural areas, while the lions share of 88% are being operated in urban area. There is an increase by 0.4 percentage points in the share of urban catering establishments compared to a year ago.
The number of catering establishments, part of which is newly opened, while some other part is regularly renovated, is a key factor shaping the demand for restaurant furniture, in the short to medium term.
